Almost always blocked burner ports or a burner that has corroded through. Grease and food debris clog the ports over a season; the flame then runs strong at one end and weak at the other. Take the grates and flame tamers off and check the burner tubes — if the ports are blocked, cleaning them often restores an even flame. If the tube itself is split or rusted, it needs replacing.
Treat it carefully. Repeated clicking with no ignition means gas may be flowing with nothing burning it — turn the gas off at the tank or shutoff and let it clear before trying again. Usually the cause is a fouled electrode, a failed igniter module, or a blocked orifice. Gas ignition faults are worth handing to a TSSA-certified technician rather than persisting with.
Usually, yes. Burners, igniters, valves, regulators and grates are all replaceable parts, and built-in outdoor units are expensive to replace because they are set into stonework or cabinetry. Where the firebox or manifold itself has corroded through, that is the point we would tell you to replace rather than repair.
Conversions are gas work and require the correct manufacturer conversion kit for that specific model — not a generic part. Tell us the model and which fuel you are moving to when you call, and we will confirm whether a kit exists for it before booking anything.
