Usually, yes. When the fault is one common part on a machine that is otherwise in good shape, a repair almost always beats buying new. What goes into a washer repair price
Every washer repair quote is built from the same three things: the service call, the part, and the time it takes to get to that part. That is also why no honest shop gives an exact price over the phone. The same symptom can be a cheap part on one washer and a dearer one on the next, and the only way to know which is to identify the exact model.

Won’t drain: pump or filter
A washer that finishes with water still in the drum usually has a failed drain pump or a blocked drain filter. A pump replacement runs $180 to $320 all-in. A blocked filter can cost nothing, because on many front-loaders you can reach it yourself.
If you try it, put down a towel and a shallow tray first, because whatever water is left in the machine comes out through that opening. If the filter is clear and the washer still will not drain, the pump is the likely culprit.
Won’t start: lid switch or door lock
A washer that fills the display with lights but will not begin a cycle often has a lid switch or door lock fault. That repair runs $150 to $280 all-in, and it is one of the easiest yes decisions in the table.
Won’t fill: water inlet valve

Water on the floor? Stop the machine first. End the cycle, turn off the two water taps behind the washer and unplug it before you do anything else. A slow leak on an upper floor can reach the ceiling below long before it looks serious from above.
Control board and control panel repair cost
A control board repair costs $280 to $420 all-in. When people search for “washing machine panel repair cost”, this is usually the repair they mean: a dead display, buttons that do nothing, or a cycle that stops partway with no clear cause.
It is the priciest of the ordinary repairs, and it still usually comes in well under the price of a new machine. Run the half-price test on it anyway. On a basic washer the gap is narrower than on a feature-heavy front-loader, which is exactly the situation the test was made for.
